Located in West London, ARC’s Motherlabs consists of eight brand new lab spaces, and provides early-stage innovation businesses with a fully fitted and managed space to start their journey.

Adaptability and Flexibility
Adaptability and flexibility is at the crux of Motherlab’s service model. “Our aim is to provide highly capable laboratory accommodation which can be up and running within 24 hours,” says senior director of asset management, Dan Pagella.
With customers that engage in detailed and time-consuming research, it was vital that Motherlabs installed infrastructure providing a seamless and frictionless service.
“Our customers are tackling life-changing issues, using highly specialist equipment with IT requirements that are highly specific to them. Data resilience is absolutely critical to them,” notes Pagella.
In Backbone Connect, ARC found a partner that was able to meet these all these requirements and more, providing an end-to-end service tailored to the specific needs of each of Motherlabs’ customers.
Hardware and security solutions alongside seamless guest wi-fi were integral to the connectivity model employed by Backbone, alongside dedicated networks for each customer.
Working alongside ARC’s contractors, two lines of 10 GB each were installed, as well as a comms cabinet and wireless access to all eight laboratories.

The challenges
Facing the necessity for a reliable partner capable of delivering robust, easily accessible fiber connectivity to occupiers with high data demands, all while ensuring minimal service disruptions. Moreover, occupiers required swift activation within 24 hours of leasing any of the equipped lab spaces
The solution
Backbone Connect addressed these challenges by installing two high-capacity fiber links accessible to all occupants through a central fiber backbone. Each Motherlabs unit came equipped with preinstalled Wi-Fi and Firewall devices in every fitted lab space, minimizing capital expenditure for occupants upon occupancy.
Additionally, the appointment of a dedicated Tenant Engagement Manager for the building ensured that occupants with limited IT expertise had a reliable partner for addressing any IT or connectivity-related concerns.
