When Welbeck Publishing’s existing connectivity provider had experienced a period of significant growth, they felt the partnership was no longer successful. So, they started looking for a new supplier of a similar size and ethos, who was focused and would be up for the task of moving their data and network without interruption.
Making a connection
After his previous experiences, IT manager, Tom Stephens, knew that he needed a network partner with an interest in his company and an understanding of his concerns around the migration of their servers. Continuity of service throughout the migration was essential.
In a new partner, he was looking for a company that could provide an all-in-one solution for connectivity and data storage. When he began talking to Backbone Connect it was, he says, the “perfect fit”.
The team at Backbone made a point of understanding Tom’s challenges around migrating the network and servers to a new data centre. All of Welbeck Publishing’s employees were office-based before the pandemic and making sure there were no network outages during the move to a new provider was a priority.
The scalable data storage options that Backbone Connect offered proved to be the best storage solution for Welbeck Publishing, allowing for scalability as needs changed, while ensuring business continuity.

In safe hands
Once the project started, Welbeck Publishing was assigned a project manager. This meant, any queries or concerns Tom had could be addressed straight away, he had someone he could depend on. A timeline was put in place and was rigorously adhered to, enabling the project rollout to run smoothly and without delays. “It was incredible, not a single deadline was missed, it was a perfect migration,” explains Tom.
But that’s not all, little did Welbeck Publishing know that moving to Backbone Connect when they did, would be critical to their quick transition to remote working during UK lockdowns. Throughout the pandemic, they were able to lean on Backbone Connect for support.
“Backbone Connect was on hand to provide assistance and support throughout – I don’t know what we would’ve done had we not been with them,” Tom reflects.
The contrast to Welbeck Publishing’s previous connectivity provider is stark; from being a mere number in a queue, with a query that could take weeks to resolve, to now receiving tailored assistance from a designated Backbone Connect account manager who knows their business inside out. “The team at Backbone Connect is always there to provide us with ideas and explain the various options. This service alone is priceless.”
Backbone Connect has seen Welbeck Publishing through further business changes since. The publishing house recently started sharing its London premises with four other companies. While this had the potential to disrupt the network, Backbone Connect was ready to provide a solution, which meant they were able to mitigate the changes smoothly and without any disturbance.
“Having someone who is there to resolve any issues, and prevent them from escalating is incredibly helpful,” notes Tom.
